[ Who would 'a thought that the topic of Ichiro wouldn't be what twists Rei's face like that!?

However it's one of those, just a handful of times, that Sasara doesn't care so much about scoring laughs as the real question. Even Rosho'd come to some clarity about Rei and Ichiro, or about their staying out of each other's way anyway. Leaving some things be, Sasara'd taken that lecture himself. Plus look at who'd been teaching. ]

A-ah right, but he ain't much about sitting anything out. [ The kid came out of that one looking rough. Maybe Rei's worries ain't anything to talk about But. ] Ya know, more than just keeping an eye...

[It sounds so silly Rei can't help but smile when he sighs. He's not mad, at least.]

[ All the classic father-and-son activities are out, obviously. Even if this place is a hell of a lot different. As funny as it is, Sasara returns to some sorta serious tone. ]

It ain't that ya gotta go that far, but ya don't suppose there's a way besides having a crash and burning city as an excuse? With Kuko here, Ichiro's already gotta be thinking about his past and such.

[Rei stares at Sasara with one eyebrow quirked for a while. Then he sighs again and leans back in his chair, pivoting it to look out the window at the dusky street.]

Look, Sasara. I know you're trying to dole out leaderly guidance, here. I could dodge your question, but I like you, so I'll give it to you straight.

[Well, mostly straight. There's always going to be an element of obfuscation, but he is being more honest than usual. And his voice is mild.]

Ichiro's got his own reasons for acting the way he does. And even if we're on the same side here in Avalon, it's gonna be hard for him to get over anything when he knows I'm gonna return to Tokyo and get right back to pissing him off. So it's actually pretty magnanimous of me to give him space, all right?

[ All right, all right. He gets what that look means, Rei ain't into the content of what he's saying, not even a bit. Not that it takes a genius or a mastermind to figure that out. But magnanimous, right– ]

Old man, you giving space always comes with that downside of thinking ya went off doing something shifty instead! If that's what Ichiro's got in his head, you keeping away ain't about to settle him.

[ Hmph. But maybe it's who Sasara oughta talk to instead... Even if he's got a thick skull to match pops! ]

[Rei can't help it; he laughs, turning back to Sasara.]

Ya see, that's why talking ya into it's about as much as I can try and do. [ *Apart from meddling with Ichiro's day. ] Who knows how long we're all here, though, ya know?
