PERSONALITY
Rei's foremost trait is his confidence-- or arrogance, depending on your perspective. He's full of himself, and it's obvious from the way he carries himself-- attitude, dress style, and all.
When it comes to interacting with other people, Rei is actually pretty easy to talk to-- he's a bit of a social chameleon, blending to whatever mood his conversational partner sets. Behind that easy-going speaking style, though, is a never-ending calculation and sizing-up of who he's speaking to: an undercurrent that can make any chat a bit tense if it's picked up on.
While for all intents and purposes Rei looks like the kind of guy with whom violence goes hand in hand, he's actually not fond of it. Living through (and for some years, working for) a world war will give you enough of that for several lifetimes, and he'll chide (albeit jokingly) others for behaving roughly as well. That's about the only hard limit his moral compass seems to have, though-- emotional manipulation, white collar crime, and ethical quandaries a la cloning humans are all par the course for Rei. Whether or not he regrets any of those things remains to be seen.

Arrival in Avalon

Avalon App - Question Section
Now, that depends on a lot of factors, don’t you think? How am I being stranded? Was my stranding witnessed? Does anyone know I’m missing? The question says the place is a desert island, but that doesn’t mean it’s deserted; could be perfectly populated for all we know.
Way I see it, this question makes it sound like I missed my flight at the local airport, don’t have cell service, and don’t speak the local language. I guess if all I had’s my luggage, then, I’ll just hope I’ve got a good book while I wait for the next plane. Heh!
Q2: Tell us about a defining event in your life that you think influenced who you are today.
Well, this is pretty easy. Japan was taken over in a coup a few years ago, yeah? Can’t imagine anyone there whose life wasn’t changed by it. It was sudden, but really put a pin in the shitty war that’d been going on, so no one really protested enough to reverse it. That prime minister gal, Otome, started banning weapons and making laws left and right… so I’d say that completely changed how I go about things. Business is less violent… publicly, at least. Still get guns pointed at my head on occasion!
[It’s the opposite, though: considering how wrapped up in Otome’s life Rei is, it’s more like he influenced who she is— and what Japan became.]
Q3: What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
Family is just happenstance blood ties. There’s no real obligation there. You can’t rely on people who are related to you just because of that-- that’s one of the fastest ways to get duped. So: while I technically have family, I don’t have any family. Not in the way this question’s asking.
[Rei is lying through his teeth, of course. But he’s lying to himself, as well.]
Q4: Tell me about a time you were involved in a personal conflict (not a physical fight). What would you do differently to resolve it?
Oh, I get involved in personal conflicts all the time! [It’s practically his M.O to be nosy…] One of the most recent was a years-long spat my two teammates were having. They were acting like real saps, not speaking to each other out of fear of hurting the other. Can you believe that? Embarrassing stuff. Anyway, all it took was duping one of them into an MLM scheme and luring the other into finding out. Funny what shared adversity can do to rebuild bonds! I don’t mind playing the villain one bit, heh.
As much as I meddle in other people’s business, though, I try not to have any issues of my own. Much easier to control other people, don’t you think?
Q5: Do you have any regrets? If so, what are the biggest ones? If not, what is something you wish you had gotten to do back home?
I can’t have regrets. I’m a conman! If I ever regretted anything, I wouldn’t be able to do my job very effectively, now would I? Hahaha.
[At least, that’s what Rei tells himself. The truth is, if he could change anything— just one thing— it would be nice if his children didn’t grow up in such rotten circumstances. Sure, it’s been good for building character— but they’ve seen enough violence already.]
